“The late Mr. Blackwell, (International Fashion critic) was quoted in print and on television stating, ‘Garyk Lee has pure couture talent! He has Class! There is hope for some sanity in today’s fashion world!’” Blackwell considered Lee’s talent as innate. Mr. Blackwell personally told me ‘Finish your quest!,’”Lee said.

Future News

Lee plans to offer the collection through on-line shopping as he incorporates it with a Television Show in Pre-Production. “Warrington Lane, is a dramedy about two families embedded in a Business Dynasty filled with controversy, alluring situations and plenty of high style,” he said. 5 times dogs stole our heart in luxury campaigns

5 times dogs stole our heart in luxury campaigns

They may be known as man’s best friend, but if luxury brands have their way dogs are quickly becoming women’s best friend. 2015 has definitely been the year of the dog when it comes to luxury brand campaigns, with more and more brands tapping into the trend and partnering up with adorable pooches to showcase their designs.

Make way, Choupette. The internet has new fashionable furry muses now.

Here are some of our favourites:

1. Jimmy Choo

Luxury brand Jimmy Choo reached out to Instagram-famous puppy Jimmy Choo for a collaboration. The bull terrier became famous as the star of artist Rafael Mantesso’s Instagram and now finds himself the star of the brand’s #ChooHound capsule collection.

STYLE caught up with artist Mantesso when the campaign first launched.

2. Tod’s

Italian brand Tod’s began their Dots of Life campaign by inviting customers to share images of them stylishly wearing the brand’s apparel. The campaign has now extended to include our favourite four-legged friends. The brand has asked customers to share pictures of their Gommino loafers and their dogs, which are shared by the brand on its social media platforms.

3. Karen Walker

Toast, a King Charles puppy mill rescue dog, has more than 293,000 followers on Instagram (at time of post). She’s rubbed paws with fashion royalty, such as Karlie Kloss and Irina Shayk, but really came into her own as a fashion icon when eye-wear brand Karen Walker tapped the adorable tooth-less pooch as the star of its summer 2015 campaign. Cue images of Toast with her tongue out and rocking some stellar shades.

4. Coach

The front woman for affordable luxury brand Coach’s campaign is famous in her own right, as she just happens to be Lady Gaga’s adorable French bulldog. This isn’t the first time Miss Asia Kinney, who happens to have her own Instagram account, has wowed in front of the camera. The French bulldog also appeared in Harper Bazaar’s September 2014 cover alongside her platinum-selling owner.

5. Bergdorf Goodman

New York’s luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman hit social media gold with the adorable hashtag #Barkdorfs posted on Instagram and Facebook. The campaign, which is a collaboration with PurseBlog, pairs fluffy puppies with chic handbags and gives each pooch a personality of its own.

Kristen Stewart looks ladylike in red vintage dress

His latest muse! Kristen Stewart looks ladylike in red vintage dress as she continues filming on the set of new Woody Allen flick

She’s famously chosen comfort over fashion before, swapping stilettos for trainers at star-studded red carpet events.

But this fashion faux pas of socks and sandals wasn’t Kristen Stewart’s own choice, as she was in character for her new role, filming for Woody Allen’s latest movie in Los Angeles on Friday night.

The 25-year-old actress covered up in the red, vintage polka dot dress with matching socks and 1940s style headband for the scenes filmed at a restaurant in West Hollywood, while also being joined by the famous director.

The return: it's the first time Allen, 79, has chosen to make a film in the greater Los Angeles area since his 1977 classic Annie Hall

pink bridesmaid dresses

Kristen cut an elegant figure, looking the perfect picture of 1940s fashion, and a world away from her usual more grungy self.

Her slender frame was well covered by the extremely conservative piece, which came to below her knees, keeping her legs under wraps.

The look was finished off the look with a pair of gold sandals, and a small, woven heart-shaped handbag.

She had her medium-length brunette locks down, kept out of her face by a girlish white bow tied around her head.

It was clearly a long day filming on the film – which is, as yet, a secret – as earlier Kristen was spotted in a very different outfit, showing off her tiny waist.

She looked rather lovely in a pink, patterned tie-up blouse along with white mini skirt.

Her mile-high legs could be seen full-view as the separate look was completed with white socks and a pair of strappy beige leather heels.

Throughout both scenes, the Twilight star wore natural, complimentary make-up including a swipe of pink lip and blush powder around her face.

She was not alone on set as co-star Jesse Eisenberg also rocked the fashions of the era as they got ready to film a scene together. This will be the third flick the two stars have done together.

The 31-year-old actor looked dapper in a brown suit with matching brown leather shoes.

The Zombieland star finished off the look with a blue striped dress shirt, brown striped tie and his hair elegantly dishevelled.

Legendary director Woody was also seen giving the two young, talented stars direction before getting behind the camera.

The 79-year-old filmmaker wore a blue checked button-down tucked into baggy khaki trousers, brown leather shoes, a brown bucket hat and his signature thick-rimmed black plastic spectacles.

it’s the first time Allen has chosen to make a film in the greater Los Angeles area since his 1977 classic Annie Hall.

The rest of the cast is star-studded as it includes Blake Lively, Bruce Willis, Corey Stoll, Anna Camp, Parker Posey, Paul Schneider and Judy Davis.

Prior to the being on the Southern California set together, Kristen and Jesse were busy promoting action comedy American Ultra, which released on Friday.

3D mirror measures clients for a better fit

High-end lingerie brand Rigby & Peller prides itself on the personalised services provided by its boutiques’ “lingerie stylists”. The 76-year-old company has recently incorporated a hi-tech element in its made-to-measure service. It now uses a 3D mirror that helps take accurate measurements of a client’s bust.

The British brand, which has been Queen Elizabeth’s official corsetiere since 1960 and counts celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga among its customers, has installed the technology in its flagship Hong Kong store on Hysan Avenue in Causeway Bay. It is the first of its stores in Asia to have this mirror. The six others in use are in Rigby & Peller shops in Europe.

The aim is to combine the technology with the lingerie stylists’ knowledge to enhance the customer experience, and reduce the time it takes for accurate measuring, and I had a chance to try it for a fitting.

The mirror is inside a changing room; all you see of the scanner is a large screen that looks like a one-way mirror. Look more closely, though, and you can see some kind of camera inside.

black bridesmaid dresses

First, the lingerie stylist wraps a tape round my torso just below my bust and notes down my strap measurement. Then, after I shed my clothes, the stylist standing outside the changing room asks me to stand with my arms slightly away from my body. When the mirror glows light blue, the scan has begun. It’s a signal for me to turn slowly in a clockwise circle so that the camera can record 140 different points on my body. There are a few technical issues, but on the fourth attempt it records all my measurements in less than a minute. They are sent to the stylist’s iPad, and an algorithm translates these numbers into my bra size.

The stylist comes back with several bras for me to try. She helps me put them on in the changing room and even gives a few tips on how they should be worn properly, how the back strap should not ride up, and the straps should not dig into the shoulders – one should be able to comfortably slip a finger in between the strap and the shoulder.

The combination of the 3D mirror and the stylist’s experience was impressive, because practically every bra I tried on fitted well.

Then we used the mirror again to take pictures of me in several different bras to narrow down the selection to those most suitable for my body and my own preferences.

Once the session is over, all the digital images taken of me are deleted from the iPad in my presence, while my measurements are kept in the company’s database for future purchases, and potentially to help the company develop products tailored for Asian body types.

After trying the 3D scanner, customers are under no obligation to buy, although we are told 90 per cent of them do.

Fashion Discovery Site Roposo Nabs $15M From Tiger Global

Roposo, a discovery platform for fashion products, has scooped up $15 million in fresh funding from returning investor Tiger Global. Based in Gurgaon, Roposo lets users save items from different websites and also allows brands to create official accounts. The startup disclosed its $5 million Series A just five months ago.

Roposo has raised $21 million in total so far and its other backers include Binny Bansal, the co-founder and chief operating officer of Flipkart, one of India’s largest e-commerce sites.

Created by a founding team that includes the former chief technology officer of restaurant directory Zomato, Roposo’s future is tied into the rapid rise of India’s e-commerce market, which is set to become the fastest-growing in the world. Roposo currently claims more than one million users, with 200 web stores, and 4,000 brands on the platform.

Social commerce sites like Roposo, LimeRoad (another Tiger Global portfolio company), Wooplr, and Voonik complement large e-commerce marketplaces like Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Amazon India by helping shoppers find products they are likely to buy instead of sifting through thousands of listings. They also help smaller e-commerce sites build brand recognition.

The success of these sites hinges on whether the results produced by their recommendation engines are accurate enough to keep users engaged. Roposo’s recommendation engine was originally used for Giveter, which products gift ideas, and the company wants to become the “default fashion search engine” for shoppers in India.

Six tips on how to look cool at the beach

I don’t know when exactly, or where, but like everyone else I’m getting my annual urge to fling myself on to some sand. So what do I need to take to the beach? Well, first of all some trunks. Yes, tailored swimshorts look smart but, goddamn, an elasticated waist feels good after a lunchtime paella (“No, I do know it’s for two people, but I will eat both raciones”). There’s a simple method to pick the design of your trunks and it goes like this: is your T-shirt or shirt patterned? If the answer’s yes, then your trunks must be plain. If the answer’s no, go crazy. No pattern is too bold, no colour too garish. Express yourself.

Next up is your top. On holiday is the only time you can justify wearing a vest, but you still need to proceed with caution – you don’t want to look like you’re auditioning for the next series of Love Island. I’ll generally go for a short-sleeved shirt, ideally quite loose-fitting. A plain white linen one will do just fine, or get stuck into the floral trend (remember – only with plain shorts).

Men's beach fashion

black bridesmaid dresses

You’ll also want to take some knitwear. Knitwear on the beach, what is this madness? Here’s the thing – you’ll want to make a smooth transition from beach to bar, and a jumper can really help with that. Obviously you don’t want a heavy cable – go for a fine cotton knit from somewhere like John Smedley. Promenading down the, err, promenade at sundown, you might be tempted to tie your jumper loosely around your neck. Resist that temptation. Keep your jumper in your bag. You have a bag, right? I like tote bags and refute the idea that they are feminine. A decent-sized tote will swallow up all of your beach bits – lotion, book, headphones, binoculars, two-litre bottle of Orangina etc. Failing a tote take a holdall and carry everyone else’s stuff, too.

Bucket hats are currently very “in” but bear in mind that if you wear a bucket hat you will be a man wearing a bucket hat. Think very carefully about that. I’d favour renting a lounger with a parasol, or a nice Panama hat, or raging sunburn to the scalp, over the bucket.

The last thing on my beach packing list is a game of some description. If I were to come into money (fairly sizeable if), I would buy the most luxe set of bat ’n’ ball ever made, from Frescobol Carioca. The bats are beautiful: the sort of thing you’d happily hang on the wall and call art. Without a sudden windfall, I’ll stick to forgetting to pack one of my cheap sets and buying yet another set from yet another bloody kiosk.

The World’s Most Luxurious Shoes

1. He has a devoted Bangladeshi butler, Safquat, who goes everywhere with him and caters to his every whim, even on holiday.

2. The very first shoes he ever designed were inspired by the famous image of Diana, Princess of Wales sitting in front of the Taj Mahal during her visit to India in 1992. “I remember the picture at the time of Princess Diana and she was looking at her feet and I thought she looked so sad….It would be nice to have something to make her smile, when she looked at her feet.” So he made a pair of flat suede pumps with the word ‘LOVE’ written in his signature red, ‘LO’ on the left foot, ‘VE’ on the right.

3. His ‘So Kate’ heels were inspired by Kate Moss while he was fitting her for shoes for her wedding celebrations. The model has countless pairs of his iconic ‘Pigalle’ heels, so Louboutin decided to “reshape” it slightly and make a version perfect for her. He lengthened the point of the toe, closed the heel in more, made the heel pin-thin and higher.

4. He has four homes around the world. All of them are perfect.

5. Heel fact: the shorter the distance between the tip of the heel and the sole, the harder it is to walk in them. The greater distance, the easier it is.

6. Despite a huge personal shoe collection (he has over 100 pairs in his Paris home alone) he often thinks he doesn’t have the right shoes for the right occasion – which, he says, is great because it gives him design ideas. He keeps his shoes in categories; spike-embellished in one cupboard, metal-tipped in another, and sneakers in another.

Christian Louboutin's first shoes

7. After a lifetime of assuming he was adopted thanks to a skin tone that was significantly darker than his three sisters’, in 2014 Louboutin discovered that he was the product of a passionate affair his mother had with an Egyptian man. Ironically, in 2012 he had said in an interview with The Scotsman: “I felt I wasn’t French. My family was very French and so I decided they had probably adopted me. But instead of feeling it was terrible and that I was an outsider who had to go and find my real family, I invented my own history, full of characters from Egypt because I was very into the pharaohs.”

8. Unfortunately for us, Mr Louboutin will never consider doing a lower-priced line, despite being asked many times before, because it would compromise quality. “It would offend me to put my name on a design I would not be proud of. It’s non negotiable.” he says.

9. He’s very matter-of-fact about what he does. “I think that I make very useless work and I’m very proud of it.” But, he adds, “It’s very important to design things that you don’t need.”

10. He’s affected by affection, not business. If it all went tomorrow, he wouldn’t be that bothered. “Love life and love who you are. That’s what you should try to do.”

11. He doesn’t have a business model for his eponymous company, he just kind of goes with it. “There is no business model, as there is not much business model to what I am doing in general.”

Kristen Stewart wears ladylike colour-block dress

Kristen Stewart wears ladylike colour-block dress with grey trainers and a leather jacket as she promotes upcoming movie in NYC

She’s known for her more edgier style.

But actress Kristen Stewart, 25, showed off her more demure side on Monday as she was spotted wearing a very sophisticated ensemble.

The former Twilight star donned a ladylike colour-block pencil dress as she headed to the Today Show from the Greenwich Hotel in New York City.

The US actress looked gorgeous in the black, red and white pencil dress, which was fitted to show off her petite frame.

She wrapped up warm from the NYC chill in a quilted leather biker jacket and was seen clutching a grey beanie, as well as her silver phone.

Scarlet diva: Kristen's lips were painted a vampy red shade to complement the red hue of the frock

Chic, black sunglasses concealed her flawless features and her lips were painted a vampy red shade to complement the red hue of the ensemble.

Her brunette locks were styled into a curled up-do and sweeped to one side, framing her face beautifully.

Her casual footwear certainly clashed with her stunning pencil dress, but there’s no doubt she’ll be changing into heels for her TV appearance.

She still managed to make the look her own as she stepped out into the street wearing the box fresh footwear.

The actress, who is most known for playing the protagonist Bella Swan in the Twilight film series, is currently in the city to promote her upcoming film, American Ultra, also starring Jesse Eisenberg, Topher Grace and Connie Britton.

The film centres around a convenience store clerk – played by The Social Network actor Jesse – who is reborn into his previous life as a lethal government operative, and Kristen stars as his girlfriend, Phoebe.

The comedy, directed by Nima Nourizadeh, is due in UK cinemas on September 4.

Graffiti Artist Claims Katy Perry Dress Ripped Off His Work

There was some cringing when singer Kate Perry strode the red carpet at this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art black-tie fashion party wearing a strapless black dress decorated with graffiti. “Come on, Katy Perry! Graffiti belongs on the sides of walls, not on red carpet gowns!” wrote one entertainment reporter.

There was also infringing, alleges a street artist, who claims in a federal lawsuit that the Italian fashion house and designer behind the runway dress incorporated a replica image of a mural he spray-painted in Detroit without his consent.

Joseph Tierney, who goes by the trade name “Rime,” claims in his suit that “Vandal Eyes,” the mural he painted in 2012, is a copyrightable work just like a book, movie or painting. And he alleges that the defendants, luxury Italian label Moschino and and designer Jeremy Scott, made him an unwilling participant in a publicity stunt that compromised his credibility.

cheap bridesmaid dresses

“In particular, nothing is more antithetical to the outsider ‘street cred’ that is essential to graffiti artists than association with European chic, luxury and glamour—of which Moschino is the epitome,” the lawsuit says. “To anyone who recognizes his work, Plaintiff is now wide open to charges of ‘selling out.’”

Moschino, in a statement Thursday, said it would “vigorously defend” itself. “Many of the allegations, especially the inflammatory and gratuitous allegations of wrongdoing are false,” the company said.

There’s no reason why graffiti artists can’t be covered by the same rights granted to other visual artists, says Case Western Reserve University law professor Aaron Perzanowski, who teaches intellectual property law.

To be copyrightable, artwork needs just two things: some originality and to be “fixed in a tangible medium of expression.” That can be a canvas, film or audio. In Mr. Tierney’s case, a brick-lined wall.

Street artists asserting copyright protection over illegal graffiti can risk prosecution by exposing their identity in court, a consequence that can outweigh the legal benefits of intellectual property rights.

But whether the graffiti is outlaw art or commissioned isn’t really a factor when it comes to federal copyright law. And Mr. Tierney says his mural was legal anyway, sprayed at the invitation of the property owner in Detroit.

“At that point, it becomes pretty much your typical copyright case,” Mr. Perzanowski told Law Blog.

He said the defendants could try to challenge the claim by arguing the dress’s homage falls into the fair use exception in copyright law, which gives leeway to creative works. Fair use can apply to situations in which the original work has been “transformed” into something different, like a satire or parody.

Does it matter what colours you dress your baby in

On my first ever outing with my first baby, I made a beeline for the kids’ clothes section. My new daughter had been in neutrals for a week, and she needed some colour. Well, okay, I needed some colour. And that colour turned out to be pink. Not because I set out with that intention, but because most of the baby-girl outfits in my local store were pink, and most of the baby-boy clothes were blue.

Today, many parents reject the notion of colour stereotypes, and there’s a move towards gender-neutral clothes. But does it really matter if we dress girls in pink and boys in blue?

Dublin mum-of-four Adele avoided colour-coding her boy-girl twins as far as possible. “From the outset, I did make a conscious effort not to dress my daughter in pink. Having said that, I was gifted many lovely pink outfits that I put on her without any hesitation. But when buying her clothes, I try to avoid buying pink. I don’t particularly like the ‘pretty little girl image’ pink evokes,” she says, “I didn’t want to pander to the notion that girls must wear pink exclusively.”

Adele was similarly conscious when buying clothes for her son. “It’s actually a lot easier to buy clothes in a variety of colours for girls than it is for boys, and even if I tried, it was hard to avoid a car or dinosaur motif on every item.”

And six years on, has the pink avoidance paid off?

“She likes pink, pretty clothes,” says Adele. “I still try to steer her away from them, but when she does get more interested in clothes I’ll let her choose for herself. ”

So do girls innately like pink? Or is it something that’s learned?

As part of a 2011 British Journal of Developmental Psychology study, one-year-old babies showed no preference at all for pink. From the age of two, girls started to prefer pink, and from four, boys rejected pink.

But even if, as this suggests, colour preference is learned, does it matter?

Pinkstinks is a campaign that targets products that prescribe heavily stereotyped roles to young girls, and its co-founder Abi Moore thinks it does matter.

“We’re not opposed to pink per se,” she explains, “But we are opposed to the rampant use of it on the high street and online to gender stereotype girls and make them all look the same. Our strapline is “There’s more than one way to be a girl”… we want to see a world where girls are free to make real and actual choices about who they are, how they want to look, what they want to be, and not to feel pressured by marketers, and therefore by culture as a whole, into fulfilling outdated and damaging stereotypes often based around pretty passive roles.”

Blue vs Pink

Image: royal blue bridesmaid dresses

And the problem is, a little bit of gender stereotyping goes a long way.

“People, children included, have a strong drive to remember information that is consistent with what they know… It helps us navigate a sometimes scary environment.” says psychology professor Dr Christia Brown, author of Parenting Beyond Pink or Blue: How to Raise Your Kids Free of Gender Stereotypes. “The world becomes a more dependable place when I can predict how ‘all’ boys or ‘all’ girls will act. The problem is that all boys don’t act the same, nor do all girls.”

So, we gravitate towards stereotypes and ignore exceptions, perpetuating the idea that all girls like baking and make-up, and all boys should be principals and presidents.

So what can parents do?

It can be difficult to find gender-neutral clothes in high-street stores, so parents are turning to small, online retailers like Sewing Circus and Hipbaby.ie for less traditional options.

“I didn’t consciously set out to stock gender-neutral clothing, as initially I wanted to find skin-friendly clothes for my daughter who had severe eczema,” says Leona Kinahan, owner of Hipbaby.ie. “However, it soon became clear to me that there was a market for gender-neutral, high-quality clothing for children. My customers are very complimentary on lovely blues for girls and very little black or brown for boys.”

But the reality is, unless you make a conscious effort, it’s hard to avoid colour-coded clothes.

Particularly when there’s a birth announcement – there’s a rush to punctuate it with the flagship colours.

Seven years after that first shopping trip with my daughter, I asked her what her favourite colour is. “Blue,” she said, as she danced off in her sparkly pink shoes. Perhaps, like everything else, it’s about moderation.

A case for it

Mary Holmes, mum to a little girl, doesn’t think we should steer children away from

gendered clothes.

“Absolutely not. Why should they not make their own choices? If a little girl or a little boy is attracted to pink, let them choose,” says the personal stylist and owner of RubySeven.ie. “Children’s taste and interest in toys, colours and entertainment changes as they grow up, and what they prefer now may not be the same choice they will make in a year’s time. And many little girls move on from dresses to jeans and tops more quickly than their mums would like. But if that’s what they are more comfortable wearing, why restrict them?”
