Sarah McBride Addresses the 2016 DNC to Declare “I Am a Proud Transgender American”

History was made Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention, when Sarah McBride became the first transgender American to address the DNC.

“My name is Sarah McBride, and I am a proud transgender American,” she declared to the audience, which welcomed her with sustained applause.

McBride is one of nearly 30 transgender delegates at the DNC.

She was introduced by gay members of Congress, including Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, who in his introduction declared, “Sarah, it’s about time” a transgender person spoke at the DNC.

McBride told her story about coming out as transgender while serving as student body president of American University.

Still, McBride said that there is still work to do for transgender Americans to be accepted. She urged Americans to vote for Hillary Clinton, who she said understands that “everyone has the freedom to live openly and equally.”

McBride said her belief that Clinton needs to be elected grew stronger after the death of her husband, who died of cancer at the age of 28 just four days after they were married.

“Knowing Andy left me profoundly changed,” McBride said of her late husband. “But more than anything else, his passing told me that every day matters when it comes to living your life to the fullest.”

‘MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT’ NEWS: LILLIAN VILCHEZ SPEAKS OUT ABOUT HER WEDDING DAY

The new season of Married at First Sight just started airing last night, and now the new cast is ready to let the fans get to know them better. People shared that Lillian Vilchez shared a blog post and explained all about what made her decide to get married this way and more. She was left with a broken heart from her last relationship and was hoping that this time would be different.

Lillian Vilchez is now married to Tom Wilson after meeting him on the same day they would tie the knot. Lillian shared why she decided to do this experience saying, “The matching on Married at First Sight is based on many different factors, including core values, psychological evaluations, personality assessments and one-on-one. The extensive process is what drew me to the show. I mean, these experts have to take this seriously – their careers are on the line.”

Lillian shared that she went into this knowing 100 percent that this was what she wanted to do. She didn’t doubt the process. As soon as they told her that she had a match, she started to imagine her fairy tale. Lillian revealed all about how her mom was the first person she called saying, “Some people would be nervous or even scared that they got chosen, but I was ecstatic! I couldn’t believe that I was lucky enough to get matched, and I would be meeting my future hubby in just TWO weeks! My initial reaction was to call my mom – hearing her voice is always so calming. But I immediately realized that this time was different. She went right in and started highlighting the terrifying reality of the situation, and the nerves suddenly started kicking in.”

When it came to this process, Lillian knew she was taking a lot of chances, but it was worth it to her. She looked at the pros and cons then decided that it was worth it. Lillian took her mom out shopping with her for her wedding cheap prom dresses.

View image on Twitter55 Retweets 2929 likesOne thing everyone remembers about Lillian Vilchez is that she freaked out over the idea of pearls on her wedding day. She explained that this is a culture thing and that in Latin culture pearls mean “tears of the sea.” She was going to be marrying someone she didn’t know so this was a huge chance for her to take. Then her new husband got her pearls, which was shocking and not what she had planned. Lillian shared her thoughts.

“My first reaction was to quickly put them on. They were so beautiful and I wanted everyone to see me wearing them. I wanted my husband to see me wearing them, so I asked my mom to put them on me. But I noticed she was super hesitant and for a moment I forgot why. ‘It’s bad luck!’ my sister said. My heart immediately dropped. Here I was, holding these beautiful pearls that my future husband got for me and was probably expecting me to wear as I walked toward him for the first time, and I simply couldn’t. Suddenly, the thought of not walking down the aisle wearing them brought tears to my eyes.”Between the pearls and the rain, Lillian was very concerned that these were all bad signs. Only time will tell if Lillian and Tom are able to get their marriage to work out long-term. Everyone can’t wait to see if these Married at First Sightcouples have really found love or not.

FYI also explained a bit the fact that this curse that Lillian was worried about might just not mean anything. Also, a rainy day is seen as lucky, so Lillian needs to remember that could be a good thing. A lot of people also believe in something borrowed, blue, old and new needing to be at the wedding, but others get married just fine without it.

Sound off in the comments section below on your thoughts, and don’t miss new episodes of Married at First Sight on Sundays on A&E.

Our Bridal Muse: Audrey Hepburn As Jo Stockton

As gorgeous as Audrey Hepburn’s own wedding gown was, there is something endearing and spellbinding about the cheap evening dresses uk she donned in Funny Face (1957), as Jo Stockton. Perhaps considered the quintessential short wedding dress, the simplicity and classic appeal of her character’s bridal costume cannot be denied.

744ec9b79f1349494c51a9422b4bab57The straight neckline, capped sleeve and dropped waistline are perfectly suited to Hepburn’s petite frame. The volume of the skirt does not disguise her tiny waist as it cleverly starts from the hips, and its tea-length hem is both practical and beautiful. It ends just at the lower calf, allowing her to dance and move, whilst still embodying gracefulness and soft femininity. The stunning photograph of Hepburn being spun into the air by her co-star Fred Astaire captures this feeling perfectly.

In terms of accessories, the look is quite minimal. The veil is light with a dotted texture, topped with a charming bow. It appears to be tucked in toward the back of the dress creating volume around the shoulders – a nice touch of drama around the face. The veil then flows down her back to the hem of the dress, however it looks particularly gorgeous when it is gathered around her arm. Pearl earrings, round-toe shoes with a low heel and plain white gloves complete the look.

The beauty style is representative of Hepburn’s signature look. Her enviable eyebrows are thick and dark, sitting atop dark lined eyes and finished with a soft rosy lip. Her hair is pulled back tightly, forming a bun to the back of the head which is hidden by the veil, emphasising her beautiful face without distraction.

Audrey Hepburn/Jo Stockton is inspiration for any bride lusting after a classic and minimal approach to bridal wear. She is particularly important for brides who are working with a petite frame, as everything in this look is working with Hepburn’s height and figure.

Back-to-school fashion sneak peek

We know the sunshine just sank in for summer, but as the days now begin to grow shorter, the new school year is soon on the horizon.

Here are some tips on how to revamp your back-to-school wardrobe so you’re ready for the new school year when it arrives.

■ Don’t procrastinate. Now is the time to start reshaping your on back-to-school wardrobe. Start piece by piece now and you can price shop to get the best deals. Shop online and make sure you use coupon codes.

■ Purge first. Go through your closet and donate or sell anything that is out of season or doesn’t fit right. Use the money to get stuff you really want. Throw away or repair everything that is not in pristine condition.

■ Create a game plan. Once you have a good inventory of what clothes you have, make a list of what you need to fill in the gaps, from basics to some of the fall’s biggest trends that will flatter your body and personality.

■ Pin your list. Use Pinterest to collect inspirations and narrow down your preferences. One study by Crowdtap found that 27% of back-to-school shoppers organize their shopping lists on Pinterest.

Here are our favorite trends by category for fall 2016:

Dresses

For the warmer part of the school year, you may be able to get away with a trendy off-the-shoulder cheap evening dresses uk. As temps cool off, swap it for a long maxi dress (throw a cardigan on top of a sleeveless one), or look for a long-sleeved OTS dress in a darker color.

Tops

Like dresses, shirts that show off your shoulders are big this season. Instead of a simple V-neck, pick a shirt with a lace-up front.

Instead of wearing flannel free-flowing or tucked in this fall, tie it in a knot at your waist to not only give your outfit more shape, and also give it a little more style.

If you’re looking for a simple top to wear with your favorite jeans, go for a crop top that’s short enough to be on trend but doesn’t show your belly, like a waist-length, flowy, pleated blouse. top in a deep red. We love the ruffled lace top from Charlotte Russe.

Back-to-School fashion sneak peekBottoms

Skinny jeans are still great this fall, and so are baggier boyfriend jeans cuffed or rolled up a bit at the ankles. Colored denim has also popped back into circulation.

If you’re feeling less bold but still want something other than blue jeans, black high-waisted jeans can go casual or even dressy, if paired right. They’re super versatile and the darker color can be more flattering than many of the uber-light washes that you’ll find on the racks right now.

Back-to-School fashion sneak peekPatterns

Ditch the big, chunky flowers and trade them for small, sweeter florals. If you want larger patterns, look for watercolor-style blended florals that are a little more abstract. Watercolors and color blends are one of the most interesting pattern trends right now.

Back-to-School fashion sneak peekA simple black choker is an easy way to channel the retro ’90s and accent a shoulder-free top.

Mix it with a different decade with thick, retro round sunglasses.

Pair that with a fringe bag. Fringe just won’t go away (and we’re not complaining). Feeling bold? A fringe jacket is a quick way to level up even the simplest outfit.

On the feet, look for a new pair of simple ankle booties in brownish charcoal that you can wear with anything.

Simple white canvas lace-up shoes are another must-have in any fall closet, and they go with just about anything, from dress to jeans. At Charlotte Russe, you can also find them in black, gray or red.

Back-to-School fashion sneak peekColors

Burnt orange always seems to drift back into the view in the fall, and this year is no exception. Pop some orange (even some lighter shades) in your sweater for a retro spin, or accent with a brownish-orange bag that matches the leaves on the trees outside.

Artful Shopper: The Art of Fashion and Moore in Fort Myers

When did the store open?

We opened four years ago. It’s fun. I love the customer base and where we’re located. I used to be a geriatric social worker in Ohio so this is a new venture for me. It’s refreshing. We’re in the Arcade Theatre building right across from the box office for the Florida Repertory Theatre.

This is the beauty of being downtown. We can make the hours that make the most sense for our business. The theatre is a wonderful way to drive more traffic to the store. Sometimes people come back when they have more time to shop and have more personal attention.

Teri Moore, formerly a geriatric social worker in Ohio,

What do you sell?

We sell clothing for women and accessories that are basically artsy, different, comfortable and fun. That kind of thing. The Fly London shoes are extremely comfortable and designed in Europe. Right now they’re on sale for 30 percent off. I sell Lee Andersen mother of the bride and event outfits. In accessories we carry a lot of jewelry. These are fun pieces that go well with the clothing that we sell. The jewelry that we have is beautifully designed and may range from $20 for a pair of earrings to $550 for a fabulous necklace. We have some beautiful scarves and parasols from India in three different styles. The parasols are $35.

What is your 17 Weeks of Summer promotion?

In the summer for local residents, we offer them a card for the 17 Weeks of Summer promotion. Every week you can have one clothing item for 40 percent off (except for the custom ordered items) and one accessory item for 20 percent. The promotion runs this year through Aug. 31. It’s really popular. We’ve had as many as 400 people sign up for it. It’s great because where we’re located the store is not visible from First Street so it keeps people coming in who wouldn’t if they don’t have that card reminding them.

What are your most popular items?

Oh My Gauze has such cute styles and it’s a big draw. Fly London shoes are well-known and Comfy USA is a line of apparel that’s very popular as well. I try to bring in new things every season so right now I have some Iguana. It’s a line of clothes of batiks that are hand painted in Bali. People always ask where I get the clothes. They are a lot of beautiful things that come in from all over the country as well as all over the world.

The Art of Fashion and Moore sells clothing for womenWho is your typical customer?

It’s usually a woman who is 50 and up, but we have people come in who are younger and certainly we’ve had people in their 90s. We’re always open when the theater is open and those theater goers tend to be people who like to look good and like unique things. I typically buy one of each size in a particular style so there’s maybe five out there in Fort Myers that look alike.

Hannah Davis’ Custom Wedding Dress Is the Stuff Fairytales Are Made Of

I do times two! Hannah Davis stunned in two Vera Wang Bride gowns as she married her love of four years, Derek Jeter, at Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in St. Helena, California, on Saturday, July 9.

The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover star revealed that she went with Wang in February. “I don’t know if I’ll give too many details before the actual day, but I’m very excited that she’s designing the cocktail dresses uk,” she told Entertainment Tonight. And now, the brand, who also dressedChrissy Teigen and Victoria Beckham for their weddings, is dishing out all the details via Instagram on Monday, July 11.

To walk down the aisle, Hannah stunned in a custom mermaid gown with sweetheart neckline, tulle halter high neck and plunging back. The gown is covered in layers of tulle and hand appliqued Chantilly lace, the brand disclosed in a press release. She also wore her hair in a bun with a veil and carried a bouquet of white flowers for the 20-minute ceremony on the golf course.

The reception brought out Davis’ sleeker side. She changed into a custom V-neck charmeuse halter gown with white illusion tulle detail at waist and double silk georgette A-line skirt accentuated by side godets. “After the ceremony, they walked around holding hands and looking ecstatic,” a source tells Us Weekly.

The New York Yankees veteran, who wore a black tux, was undoubtedly pleased with his bridal beauty’s choices. “Derek is totally in love with her. He thinks she’s beautiful, sweet and sexy! All of Derek’s friends are jealous that his fiancée is so beautiful,” a source told Us in October.

5 Must-Watch Wedding Movie Toasts

bridesmaids toast

photos:cocktail dresses uk

Courtesy of Neal Peters CollectionGearing up for an upcoming wedding where you have give a wedding toast? It may be good to do your homework and check out some of the legendary wedding speeches that people have laughed to, cried to, and even cringed at. Whether it’s to learn what to do or what not to do, watching movie wedding speeches is a great way to pregame for your shinning moment. Here are the top five wedding movie toasts you just have to watch.

1. Bridesmaids

Who can forget the epically awkward engagement toast battle between Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne’s characters in this funny flick? It’s clear both want to showcase how much the bride means to them and how amazing their friendship is with one another, but it quickly morphs into a competition between members of the bridal party — and the focus of the bride is lost. This is one of those speeches that teaches you what not to do, especially if you’re giving a co-maid of honor speech.

2. Wedding Crashers

While the movie, in general, is an epic adventure of two guys who crash weddings to pick up chicks, the speech given by Rachel McAdams’ character at her sister’s wedding is actually quite moving andemotionally perfect (once she lays off the cheap jabs at the newlyweds’ superficiality). Her toast includes an unforgettable quote — albeit stolen from Owen Wilson’s character — that many have used in their wedding toasts since, “True love is the soul’s recognizing of its counterpoint in another.”

3. Four Weddings and a Funeral

One of the most endearing and beautiful lines from any movie wedding toast comes from this movie when Hugh Grant’s character says, “I am as ever in bewildered awe of anyone who this kind of commitment that Angus and Laure have made today. I know I couldn’t do it and I think it’s wonderful they can.”

4. The Five-Year Engagement

This movie can be relatable to those with — what else? — super long engagements and a wedding that feels like it’s never actually going to happen. But the wedding toast in this movie uses a dose of humor that gets the audience laughing, a technique that all good wedding toasts should try to tackle.

Editors note: We couldn’t find the toast anywhere online, so you’ll just have to watch it the old fashioned way — by renting the DVD or streaming on Netflix.

5. The Hangover Part II

In The Hangover Part II, Alan (played by Zach Galifianakis) gives quite the awkward speech that both makes the audience cringe and seems like it doesn’t have much of a focus or a point. It’s a great example of what not to do in your groomsman toast… ever.

Something old to something new: Sanford woman has mother’s wedding dress repurposed for her own special day

Cassie LaBonville of Sanford always knew she wanted to wear her mother’s wedding cheap prom dresses for her own walk down the aisle.

“As a child, I tried it on so many times. It’s always been what I wanted to do,” she said.

Vintage Wedding DressBut she also knew that the cloud of lace and frills from 1988 would need some changes, though that just raised more questions. Then Cassie saw TLC’s series “Something Borrowed, Something New,” in which brides-to-be choose between a designer gown or their mother’s reimagined and redesigned dress.

“I was like, ‘I have to do this,’” she said. “It seemed like a possibility, because I wasn’t going to wear the poofy sleeves.”

Her opportunity came when her boyfriend Trevor Camanse proposed to her on May 7. She and her mother, Sue LaBonville, visited Midland’s Blue Gardenia Bridal Boutique, which she had heard about through a friend.

Armed with a Pinterest board of photos, they brought LaBonville’s dress to Kelly Wilson at Blue Gardenia. The first step was to determine what the new dress would look like.

“When we came here, Kelly and her daughter pulled all different dresses. I had never tried on another wedding dress before,” Cassie said.

After trying on all different styles, fabrics and silhouettes, they decided to use the skirt from another gown and the bodice of the original. Wilson kept all the lace appliques to use on the veil and bodice, and extra fabric was kept to make future christening gowns for their future children.

LaBonville recalled that within 10 minutes, Wilson and her daughter, Sarah Leonard, were already taking apart her wedding dress.

“It was a little unsettling when it was all laid out here in pieces,” LaBonville said, adding that it wasn’t too difficult because she never was very attached to her dress.

“We were so excited, because we could see that you would love it,” said Wilson.

Indeed, as soon as the trademark ‘80s sleeves were removed, Cassie could begin seeing that her dress was going to be a reality.

Wilson, a retired art teacher from Midland Public Schools, has been remaking vintage wedding dresses for about two years. She gathers gowns from thrift stores and others send her their finds. Her first step is to determine if there is enough usable fabric for a bride’s desired design; sometimes she complements it with other fabric or lace from dresses. While meeting with a bride, she sketches the general idea of the garment, and throughout each appointment continues to ascertain that she and the bride are on the same page with the same goal.

“I think the biggest challenge is interpreting the vision that the bride has and wanting it to be something that they love,” Wilson said.

Wilson, who has also created clothing from scratch, says that repurposing is more fun.

“I get to pull pieces together. It’s kind of like a collage,” she said.

To put the original bodice with the new skirt, Wilson sketched out an idea to bring the two pieces together.

“I thought it would be great to mimic the curve of the bodice,” she said. “I thought, ‘We should open the back up and curve it.’ (Cassie’s dress) was pretty straightforward. They were pretty open to any suggestion I had, which was great.”

Wilson said she has remade about 10 dresses and has seven in the works. The price is based on the amount of work needed, and generally ranges between $500 and $750.

“Every person who gets married wants to be beautiful, whether they’re earning minimum wage and barely making it or whether they have tons of money. I’ve worked with both, and the commonality is that everyone wants to have that feeling and have a beautiful day,” Wilson said. “When I see the people leave, I have a satisfied feeling. It’s really special.”

The trendiness of vintage and bohemian styles lends itself to the popularity of Wilson’s work. She was more than happy to fill the niche for vintage gowns in Midland.

“It’s fun. One of my first people was one of the people I worked with, and she was having a second wedding. She loved the lace of this one dress— it was a long, full ball gown— and I made it into a short lace dress,” Wilson described. “I made a flower girl dress for one of her daughters and the other daughter was kind of tomboyish, so I made lace shorts. It was adorable. I love doing stuff like that, just repurposing and using all the parts.”

On June 9, Cassie was able to try on her reimagined dress for the first time.

“Before this, I didn’t know how it was going to feel. I was a little nervous, but more excited than nervous,” she said. As the appointment ended, she didn’t want to take off the flowing gown.

“The dress has never been more beautiful. I’m just tickled,” said LaBonville as tears came to her eyes. “We have a very special relationship anyway. It’s very special, and I’m glad she had the vision. I did not see a beautiful dress there until Kelly started working her magic and Cassie put it on, and then I could see that it was beautiful.”

LaBonville had even requested her husband take the dress to Goodwill, but instead he had it cleaned and preserved, though the dress didn’t stay in its box once Cassie was old enough to play dress up.

“I thought, ‘Oh, I’m not going to get to ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ but was so much more special to do. It was such an experience, something I’ll never forget,” Cassie said. “It felt like being on “Something Borrowed, Something New.” We came in and it was such an experience.”

Cassie, who plans on preserving the dress in the hopes that her future daughter may wear it, said that her fiancé knows that she is wearing her mother’s remade gown.

“I think he thinks it’s cool. He knows my mom is my best friend,” she said.

Cassie said she sees the fact she is wearing her mother’s wedding cheap prom dresses uk as symbolic of their relationship.

“We have a really special bond,” she said.

“My parents have shown me what a happy marriage looks like, and I hope I have that for the rest of my life,” Cassie said. “It’s just special to wear something that started their happily ever after, and now it will start mine, too.”

Kelly Wilson has closed the storefront for Blue Gardenia Bridal Boutique but will continue to work out of her home as Blue Gardenia Bridal.
