Haute looks to beat the chills

The air is crisp and a new fashion season is at hand. Here is the latest on winter make-up, and a few helpful tips to help you overcome the gloomy weather

Luscious lashes and feathery eyebrows

Don’t underestimate the power of mascara, false eyelashes or even lash add-ons (if the occasion calls for it, just go for it). The way your eyebrows are shaped and maintained can truly change the way you look and if you go by the style files of the season, lightly filled arches that are brushed up and a bit wild yet still appearing well groomed, is the look one must try. “Use swift and small strokes of a brow pencil (avoid using black) to mimic brow hairs. Don’t forget to brush your eyebrows upward and outward as you move toward your temples,” Neema advises.

Peach Blush

For those of you make-up junkies who love contouring, Fall/Winter 2015 is all about keeping it simple. “Natural is definitely the way to go so bring out that poufy blush and add some powdery peach or baby pink blush to add colour to your cheeks. Flushed cheeks in rose shades work well for the Indian skin tone. Depending on whether you have dry or oily skin, use a cream or powder blush respectively,” Pavitra elucidates.

Bold Lips

This is the perfect time to bring out your favourite red lipstick. “This winter, we’re aiming for that 90s look so everything from berry and plum tones to oxblood red, are trending,” informs Neema Chengappa, a make-up enthusiast and blogger. “Black cherry shades look gorgeous on those with lighter skin tones but the thing about softer raspberry tints is that they complement any skin tone. Considering the cloudy skies, go for matte or semi-matte lipsticks that are long lasting and smudge-proof. Avoid glossy ones which can get wiped off quite quickly. To ensure the lipstick lasts long, use a lip liner (all over your lips) before applying the lipstick. Blot it with tissue and reapply your lipstick,” she adds.

Black Eyeliner

Black is back! For those of you who consider it too boring, Pavitra Nair, a makeup artist, says, “Make-up is going all classic this season. You can wear your eyeliner differently. Instead of doing the ubiquitous cat eye, go in for a more straight-across swipe with your kohl pencil. If you have trouble drawing a perfect line, use a washi tape/spoon to help you. The double winged eyeliner is also a rage. And remember, if you’re wearing red lipstick, you definitely want to don the black eyeliner.”

Bronze eyeshadow

For a while now, metallic eyeshadow is in. And no, we aren’t talking gold or silver anymore. Given that the 90s getup is what’s grabbing eyeballs is all about, bronze tinted eyeshadow is a must-have. According to model Lanet Bout, “It gives one that luxe look especially when teamed with smoky kohl. It works well on the fashion runways and off it too. Blend the colour impeccably from the lash line up toward your brow and make sure you don’t leave harsh lines at the crease of your eye for that perfect look. Also, don’t forget to use a primer before applying your eye make-up.”
