This wedding ceremony will steal your heart

Close your eyes and imagine what your fairytale wedding ceremony looks like. Most of us would imagine a certain amount of pageantry ceremonial riches that tug at the hearts of all in attendance, and of course from the bride and groom. Not everyone envisions the same kind of wedding, ceremony, though. But it would take some convincing to believe that not every person who marries wishes for the kind of love shared between these two amazing people, Mara & Elo.

The uniqueness of the depth of their love is not masked. Sure, there’s the visible difference in their physical appearance, but that is not an issue for them. Elo is a little person with a big heart. Mara embodies a soul that is so beautiful and nurturing you can almost see it. Truly, however, it’s their tenderness and selfless caring for each other that shines above all else. When you watch this video, you will feel that as the two recite their vows.

During the wedding ceremony, Mara spoke to Elo, “I will love you, forever as the day more. Nothing is more important to me than our love for each other. And I feel so blessed and grateful, that you loved me despite my imperfections, always seeing the gold in me even if I reflect silver. I believe I’m the helpmate God’s design especially for you. And I promise to be the arms that you need to reach your star and the legs that you need to take too big steps. My arms and legs are made to be the extension of yours.”

True love is real, my friends. And so are endings that begin with “happy ever afters.”

Jeremy Vuolo Opens Up About the Wedding Tradition That ‘Intimidated’ Him

With almost five months under their belt as husband and wife, Jinger (Duggar) and Jeremy Vuolo reminisced about their special day (the pair said “I do” on November 5, 2016, after a few months of courting) on the February 20 episode of Counting On — and are even revealing a few tidbits viewers might not have known. Duggar fans might be surprised to hear Jeremy Vuolo was nervous to break a common wedding tradition for the cutest reason possible.

Jinger (Duggar) and Jeremy VuoloThe 29-year-old opened up to TLC cameras and revealed a wedding-related tradition involving a “little” cake that intimidated him.

“The wedding cake was remarkable — it tasted delicious — and it went through my mind to do the traditional ‘get the cake all over your wife’s cocktail dresses ,’” Jeremy said to cameras. “But I was a little intimidated looking at that dress, so I made sure to be very careful feeding my wife the cake.”

Just look at how gorgeous that cake — and Jinger’s wedding dress — look.

Poor Jinger would’ve likely been caught so off guard if her hubby smashed cake in her face. That’s definitely something you should discuss before the moment arrives (at least one would think), haha.

Who knows how Jinger and Jeremy’s wedding photos would’ve looked with that impromptu addition.

We’re happy he decided to skirt such a common tradition.

5 couples who have been married for at least 30 years revisit spot where they previously had a photo taken

He was a Eurasian Catholic while she was a Chinese Buddhist.

Right from the start, Madam Chua Poh Choo’s parents objected to their relationship. But Madam Chua, 67, was sure Mr Percival Shepherdson, 69, was the one for her.

They had met in 1974, while they were doing volunteer work to help the underprivileged. Madam Chua was working as a stenographer then and Mr Shepherdson was a senior security officer. She was very impressed by his leadership skills and his generosity towards others.

pics:long prom dresses

Mr Shepherdson was drawn to her beautiful smile. And as he got to know her better, he noticed that she got along well with everybody, and that she never seemed to ask for anything in return.

The first time he paid for her bus ticket, she ran from the bus stop to the office in tears.

“I did not know who he was. The bus conductor told me that a man had paid for my ticket, so naturally I was afraid. Who knows what he might be up to?” Mrs Pereira, 80, recalled. After all, she was just 17.

The Pereiras eventually became friends and tied the knot on June 12, 1958, four years after they had met. They have two daughters.

Asked what advice he has for young couples, Mr Pereira said: “Forgive. Do not carry the anger with you. And do not borrow money. Even if it is to buy something to make your wife happy, always spend within your means.”

Mrs Pereira said patience and understanding play a big part too. “He is quick-tempered. So when he gets angry, I leave him alone until he has cooled down.”

These days, the couple look forward to spending time with their four grandsons and a great-granddaughter. They sometimes also take bus rides across the island.

“Sometimes, we go to Tampines, other times, Woodlands, or wherever we like. Then we ‘jalan jalan’ (walk) and catch a bus home,” said Mr Pereira.

TRUE LOVE OVERCAME FAMILY BACKGROUNDS

The first time Mr Syed Mohammad Syed Umar Shahab, 84, and Madam Sharifah Naraini Syed Hussein Alsagoff, 78, set eyes on each other, they were smitten.

But there was nothing more they could do than exchange glances.

They were both attending an event by the seaside at Marine Parade but the then 17-year-old was with her family.

Still, it was meant to be, for they met again a few weeks later at a wedding. This time, they spoke and exchanged phone numbers.

But the path of true love was anything but smooth, given how they were from very different backgrounds.

She was from a wealthy family with very strict parents. Their family backgrounds were worlds apart.

Knowing that her parents would not allow them to be together, she dated him secretly for several years.

He recalls how he would ring her home, and hang up. That was his signal for her to answer the next call. She would secretly skip her sewing classes so that the two of them could meet.

It took almost seven years for him to save up enough money working as a meteorologist at the airport to ask for her hand in marriage. “I was willing to wait because he is a good man,” she said.

The wedding, a grand affair, lasted five days at the bride’s home. Fifty-five years and two children later, the couple are still inseparable.

One of their habits is to never go to sleep angry with each other. “We argue, but before we go to bed, we have to settle the quarrel,” he said.

These days, they spend much of their time with family and friends.

And at least once a month, she cooks food they can pack for a picnic on the beach. “We love the sea, as that is where we first met,” she said.

Nigel Farage’s wife appears without wedding ring

The wife of former UKIP leader Nigel Farage appeared without her wedding ring today hours after it emerged her husband had been sharing a London bolthole with a female French politician.

German-born Kirsten Farage, who has previously been photographed wearing a ring, refused to answer questions at the couple’s family home in Kent today.

But there was mounting speculation about the state of their marriage after it emerged Mr Farage, 52, has been living under the same roof as Laure Ferrari, 37, at a £4million ‘bachelor pad’ in west London.

pics:prom dresses 2017

Ms Ferrari is at the centre of a investigation by Britain’s elections watchdog into UKIP’s use of funding.

Asked if she could provide details of where her husband was this morning, Mrs Farage simply said: “No”.

However, a stormy-faced Mr Farage arrived shortly after 3pm today and refused to answer questions.

Mr Farage has insisted his relationship with Ms Ferrari was professional and that he was not romantically involved with the former waitress.

Although he confirmed he was sharing the Chelsea home with her, he said claims they are having an affair were ‘crackers’.

He said: “She is someone who I have worked with and known well for a long time who wanted somewhere to stay for a week that wouldn’t cost her any money.

“It’s a working relationship, you can inflate that however you want,” he said.

Fears that his marriage could be under strain emerged when Mrs Farage did not take part in the recording of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories featuring her husband two weeks’ ago.

While his parents and brother were present for the intimate television profile, Mrs Farage did not attend the recording or film any clips for the programme.

In a magazine interview in January, the former UKIP leader denied his marriage to Kirsten, his second wife, was in difficulties.

“We get by and bumble along, like most people,” he said.

The couple have two daughters, aged 16 and 11. He has two older sons by his first wife.

In 2014 the Mirror photographed Mr Farage hand in hand with a female companion entering a hotel on Malta in the early hours of the morning.

He denied any impropriety.

Mr Farage and Ms Ferrari first met in 2007 when she was a waitress in Strasbourg.

Within months she was head of public relations for the British delegation to the European Freedom and Democracy group that includes UKIP.

‘We still wanted to be traditional, but just with a twist’

For anything to make the cut to be at Amanda Martin and Chas Hoppe’s wedding, it had to be ranked somewhere on the four-point “BEAV” scale.

BEAV stands for bizarre, elegant, asinine and vintage. It’s a scale the couple invented to apply to everything from how to decorate their living space to, well, getting married.

An example of something that might hit a few points on the scale?

Well, one of their bridesmaids was a miniature horse, and so was the accomplice of the flower girl.

“They were covered in glitter and had sparkly hoof polish,” Chas explains.

Anyone familiar with Amanda and Chas knows the BEAV scale fits well with their unique bond.

The two originally met in 2008 as students in Western Washington University’s English graduate program.

Amanda did her master’s thesis on Victorian female werewolves. Chas’ involved zombie poetry.

“We bonded over monsters,” Chas says. “It had always been a common language we spoke. Every couple builds their own code kind of thing. Monsters became that.”

Take how Chas proposed.

“I had written a poem where there was a character, the girl who thought she knew something about monsters,” Chas says. “Initially it was this little kid who announced animals were just monsters we’d gotten used to. (Amanda) just got amped on that poem.”

So once Chas knew he wanted to propose, he started writing poems with the girl as the main character, tying elements of his and Amanda’s relationship into the writings, and often hiding the poems around the house for her to find.

It wound up taking two years to write the full anthology to the point where he popped the question.

Because of their study of monsters, which Amanda explains are really just things outside the course of social patterns, the couple is highly aware of cultural norms and how to bend them.

“So when we did the wedding, we wanted to complicate as many norms as we could,” she says. “We still wanted to be traditional, but just with a twist.”

They invented a country, “The Crocodilian Republic of Chamandia,” which formed the basis of their wedding website.

They went to thrift stores and bought vintage postcards, and Amanda painted monsters into the scenes before sending those out as save-the-dates.

They also hired young local artisans whenever they could.

One friend made their rings and Amanda’s garter, which was a monster with a big open mouth. Another made cupcakes. Others helped with a pre-wedding party they held at The Shakedown.

For their Aug. 27 wedding, at the Shuksan Golf Club, they asked a friend to black prom dresses as Waldo and make sure to pop up somehow in everyone’s photos.

“There was a lot of intention that went into everything. We made sure every little thing had some sort of thing behind it, spending over a year building this intricate contraption, like a little music box,” Chas says. “Putting all the gears and springs and all that stuff together. You haven’t turned it on yet, and you have no idea if it’s going to work or blow up in your face.”

Everything went off as planned. When the day came, they danced, and they sang, and they spoke of monsters.

“People were delighted the entire time,” Amanda says. “A lot said it was one of the best weddings they’d ever been to. It’s like, OK, we pulled this artistic performance piece off.”

Under-dressed cousin should be least of your wedding worries

Question: I’m getting married in a few weeks, and we have a formal cocktail dresses code. I talked to my cousin today and asked what she was wearing. She said she was wearing a shirt and pants. Everyone will be in suits or tuxes, so I asked if she had a blazer or suit jacket, or if I could buy her one for the event. She responded that wearing a blazer would make her incredibly uncomfortable and stressed, and she could not do it; and that wearing a dress shirt and pants was already making her uncomfortable.

I’m incredibly confused by this. It’s just a blazer. I’m not asking her to wear a dress, just to follow the dress code and offering to pay for it.

2014 Long Red Tailor Made Evening Prom Dress (LFNAI0018)Am I allowed to ask her mother to try and convince her? Or do I need to accept that this is just my cousin’s odd comfort level and she cannot follow the dress code AND enjoy the wedding?

I would feel uncomfortable and stressed going to an event I was underdressed for, and I’m not sure she truly is understanding the dress code. — Cousin

Answer: Drop it. You tried, she resisted, one person will not ruin anything, and as a host, your priority has to be the comfort of your guests vs. conformity to your theme. If you can have a blazer handy to provide if she asks (i.e., not to offer), it would be kind.

Question: A “good” friend moved down the street from us with her family last fall. I put “good” in quotation marks because, although we’ve been friends since elementary school, she can be snarky, judgmental and passive-aggressive. It’s just tiring to deal with, and I’d rather spend time with people who just do not do that, rather than trying to “fix” this relationship.

However, she lives down the darn block. Our husbands are friendly. Our daughters play together. We have this 20-plus-year history. How do you suggest I save my sanity by limiting our interactions without making things too uncomfortable, or ruining things for the other family members who do get along? — Neighbor Frenemy

Answer: Why don’t you just keep interacting with her as your history, proximity and families demand, and simply not take her crap? Kindly and plainly.

When she’s passive-aggressive, ask her to say what she means. When she says something snarky or judgmental, say there’s no call for that — or just, “Really?”

Not to “fix” anything, but to get across in a friendship-friendly way these habits of hers annoy you and you’re not having them anymore.

She might surprise you by catching herself.

Old habits with old friends go both ways, and she might be reverting to an outdated version of herself she’s more than happy to leave behind, once you make her aware of it.

If instead she responds by calling you too sensitive, keep on the calm path. “Maybe so. I just find life easier when people are kind and direct.”
