僕が年に２度の市民大会に全精力を注いでいる頃、綾高の後輩達が別の市民大会に出ていました。
男子は昨年に引き続き２年連続、現役では無いですが連続出場の元主将とテニス続ける気満々の３年生。
揃いも揃って予選全敗と綾高生らしさ全開だったと思います。
脂の乗った大学４年間で市民大会通算７大会３勝９敗、0勝の大会5回、オール予選負けの先輩である僕としては親近感こそ感じますが、何としても彼らには同じ失敗をしてほしくないですね・・・。
そんでもって今回は男子だけでなく女子部も出場していました。
Ｂクラスでシングルスとダブルス両方入賞。
毎日テニスし放題のお前らがＢ出るなや！と言いつつも、自分も高校生の時にＢ出ちゃっているという・・・。
でもやっぱ勝つって大変な事ですし嬉しいですし、そんなに喜んでいるという事は沢山良い試合ができたという事。
よくやったぞ綾高生！お前らならもっと勝てるぞ！もっと調子乗っていいと思うぞ！(笑)
男女共に単身乗り込む形ではなく、個人戦でありながらも仲間と一緒に戦っている、というところが、自分の想像以上にもう昔とは違うんだなと感じさせられました。
自分が高校二年生の時に出たＢの試合は、春にＡで出て初戦敗退した後という、中々格好が付かない話。
市民大会で入賞できる高校生がよくいて、綾瀬なんて当時はダブルスで先輩と中学生がベスト４に入っていた中で、順序を無視してＡからＢ。
準決勝で7-3まで追い詰めてからの雨の一時中断でその後全てゲーム取られての逆転負けを忘れる事はとてもできない。
雨の中断で体が硬くなって調子狂うのではないか、あと１ゲームのところで気が緩んでしまうのではないか、そう身構えて１ゲームも取れず逆転負け。
Ｂと聞くとそんな苦い昔話を思い出す。
三位入賞の画像が残っていたが改めて見ても曇り顔。ろくでもない顔である。
脇で何故かにやっとした顔で見切れて写っていた当時不参加の弟は、後の高校時代に本戦ベスト４。
結局高校時代どころか今に至るまで、先輩にも中学生にも弟にも肩を並べる事すらできなかった。
テニスに熱を沢山注げる学生だった頃の自分がいかに不誠実な取り組み方をしていたか、やるべき事をできなかったか、今の後輩達とどれだけ差があるのか、結果が物語っている。
一方今の綾高生は見ての通りである。
きっとこれから自分の学生時代より全然良い戦績を残していくだろうと思う。
横浜の市大会で予選初戦敗退やってきましたが、また２週間後にトーナメント入れました。
懲りもせずレベル高過ぎそうなものに申し込んでみました。
どうせまた初戦負けかな？
後輩達と違ってろくでもない事しかできなかった未熟な自分はそのツケをずっと払っていく事になるでしょう。
この勢いなら来年には大会で後輩に引導渡される、なんて事があるかもね。
