坂井利郎プロのレッスンに行ってきました。
パパステニスクラブ津久井の一周年記念レッスン。
今年からシングルス大会で顔を出すようになりましたが、とにかくロケーションがヤバい。
神奈川にこんなテニスコートが存在するなんて何故今年まで気付かなかったのか。
気分はさながら避暑地。
凄く好きなテニスクラブなのですが、ここでのシングルスの戦績は2大会2勝6敗。
何でだろう、全然実力発揮できていない気がする。
まあどこだろうと負けまくってるから殆どの場所で実力発揮できてないけど。
今年は市民大会は全部初戦負けで終わって大分滅入っているので、どこかでパッションが欲しくて坂井利郎レッスンに参加。
当然僕は坂井プロの凄さなんて文字でしか知らない。
今年で70歳を迎える坂井プロは世界ランク元75位、フレンチ・ウィンブルドン・USオープンで３回戦進出。
そしてジャパンオープンの第一回大会の優勝者。(「ドサクサに紛れて」と自虐的に言ってましたが；)
日本人選手の歴代ランキングで並べると、錦織、杉田、松岡、添田、西岡、伊藤、九鬼、坂井、神和住、ダニエルという順で歴代８位。
歴代トップ１０で何故か半分以上が現役選手ですが、その中で松岡修造は90年代、九鬼、坂井、神和住の3人は70年代の選手。
錦織以前の日本テニスは強くなかったようなイメージで語られる事が多い気がしますが、40年前時点で日本人が3人もトップ100の壁を破って世界ランク70位台に名を連ねていた、坂井プロはそんな時代の選手、紛れもないレジェンド。
自分にはとても遠い世界。
今年で70歳との事でしたが動きはキレキレ、体もガッシリ。
軽く振ってるようにしか見えないのにボールは伸びる伸びる。
坂井プロのサーブをリターンしてみたものの、フォルトかと思ったボールが気付いたら目の前まで来ているという謎のノビ。
サーブを待ち構えるつもりが、いつの間にかワイドに逃げるサーブを追いかけるハメになっている。
ホント本人は無駄な力抜いて、無理はせずって何度も言っていたのに放たれるボールはまるで魔球。
そうか、日本屈指のレジェンドとはこういう事か。
とんでもない経験をしてしまった。
父が持っていたテニス雑誌を見てみたが、その中でさえ現役時代の坂井プロはいない。
自分にとってとても遠い選手だ。
昔のテニスは本当に伝聞でしか知らないが、福井烈プロの活躍した80年代なんて日本国内の大会でプロが活動できたと聞く。
今とはもう全くテニス人気が違う時代だったんだろうなと思う。
80年代の賞金ランキングがあったので見てみると、上から順に神和住プロと福井プロが1200万、白石プロ800万、西尾プロと坂本プロ600万。
西尾プロは365でブログを書いている方で、白石プロは元日本ランキング１位、坂本プロも元日本ランキング２位で紛れも無く日本テニス界のトップ層。
現役の選手と比べると2016年の日本人5、6、7位辺りの伊藤プロと添田プロが1100万、守屋プロで1000万。
その次に続くデ杯代表に欠かせない内山プロだと400万。
内訳は分からないものの国内の大会が主戦場で1000万～500万を今の時代で稼げたら・・・というのはもう難しいんでしょうね、せっかくの錦織ブームですけど。
