先月に初めてJTAの大会に出た僕は今月も出たいと思った。
てっきり手も足も出ず惨めに負けると思っていたら3ゲームも！！！なんと３ゲームもですよ！？取れてしまった事に味をしめ、一回戦負けしたその日に翌月の大会もエントリーした。
そう、いきなり大会２連チャンで出る勇気が無かったから、1回出てから判断したのだ。チキン野郎め。
ヘタクソが上手くなりたいなら手段を選ぶ権利は無いんだぜ。
地獄に沈むか首の皮一枚繋がるか、二つに一つで行こうぜ。
という訳で僕のテニスの最終決戦Part2なのだが、エントリーする時に先輩も誘ったらエントリーしてしまった。
やったぜ、先輩も地獄へ巻き添えだぜ。
しかしエントリー期限が1回目のJOPが終わったその日。
慌ただしくエントリーしたら、選手のエントリー数がドローの枠数を上回っているではないか。
そして選考時点でまだランキングが無かった自分は、勿論初挑戦の先輩も補欠になってしまった。
そうか、試合に出るにはポイントが必要なのか・・・。
このレベルでテニスをするには戦って勝たなくてはならないのか。
例によって自分より深くテニスに携わっている後輩Uコーチに聞くと、JOPで補欠になるのは珍しいのではないかとの事。
素人の自分がちょっと調べてみたところ、確かに補欠がいないどころか定員割れしている大会が割と見受けられる。
でも定員割れは・・・というか殆どの大会が平日開催で、土日の大会はあまり見当たらないぞ。
土日の大会に挑戦していこうと思っていたけど、これって運が悪いと定員漏れてポイント増えずで殆ど出られないんじゃ・・・
まあ、そういう世界ということか。
人生をテニスに捧げる人達のステージなのだから。
そこに立つ資格がはたして自分にはあるのか？
正直こういう大会でとても棄権者が出るようには思えないのだが、先輩も一応試合を見てみたいと言っていたのでとりあえず会場へ。
そしたらまさかの棄権者アリで出場できてしまう。
いや、確かにその為に来たと言えば来たんですけど、そうか、あるんだ、こういう事って・・・。
そういうところがダメよね自分。気を抜いていやがった。
どれくらい抜いていたかと言うと、ナイキのシューズにニューバランスのソックスを履いちゃうぐらい。
僕的ルールに引っ掛かりますね、このコーディネートは。
試合結果は１回戦を１－８で初戦敗退。
最初の練習の時点で相手選手のストロークが異次元だった。
間違いない、この前のプロのレッスンでボレーストロークの時に江原選手に笑顔で強打された剛速球に近いスピードのショットだ。
ボレストでボレーが全く当たらなかった。
無理だと思ったら、１ゲーム目のサービスゲームはまさかのキープ。
基本的に３割程しか入らないファーストサーブの確率を意識、ラリーも意外にもボールがラケットに当たる？これはもしや？
と思ったら１－１で迎えた２度目のサービスゲームを早速落とす。
前回は３ゲームは持ったサービスが早速崩れる。
5回中2球でファーストの確率４割・・・以前と比べるとこれでもマシなのですが、アプローチをミス→バックハンドスライスをミス→空振りの怒涛の３連続ミスでブレイクを許す様は中々あれですな・・・ 
何故ろくに打てないバックハンドスライスをこのタイミングで使ってしまうのか。
試合の動画を撮ってもらえていた。とても嬉しいけど、他の人と比べてぎこちない動作の自分がどんどんミスしていく姿を見るのは・・・うーん、ちゃんと認めなきゃ現実を・・・
アプローチのミスの数が凄い。
いつもながら決められないし繋がらない。
そしてどんどんフォルトが増え、１発ミスが増え、終戦。
相手が強過ぎて恐くて、攻めて自滅する事多いのに先に点を決めたがってどんどん減っていくラリー。
ますます合わなくなっていく打点。
こんなミスばっかの自分だけど、試合やってる最中と終わった後は中々清々しい気分だった。（ちゃんと猛省してんの？？？）
身の程を知れるというか、色々スッキリする、ハッキリする。
９１００円払って、今までにない惨敗、屈辱を味わうリスクを負って未知のレベルの戦いに挑む価値は大いにある。
俺にはそれが必要だ。喜んで死んでやる。
先輩、次こそは一緒に戦いましょう。
