北相地区の高校生にとってはお馴染みのあじさいカップは今日が本戦。
綾高テニス部からは冬のダブルスに引き続き女子部から１人が出場を果たしている。
昨日ダブルスを見て今日も後輩見るのかよ！と思いながらも来てしまった。
高校時代は一度も出れなかった本戦の会場に来るのは初めて・・・と思ったけど、そう言えば１度だけ予選決勝が時間切れになって本戦の日になった事があったわ。
会場は男女両方のトーナメントが行われているとはいえ、凄い人数が集まっている。
僅かな枠を勝ち抜いた仲間の為に、明らかに出場者以上の応援で賑わっている。
本戦を一度も経験しなかった自分には何だか居辛い場所である。
綾高の選手はシードの選手と戦うも大差で敗退。
流石にシード相手となればコートで感じるプレッシャーは相当な物とは思うものの、少し勿体無いプレーが目立つ試合になってしまった。
本戦の会場にいる選手と大半の綾高生を比べると、本戦レベルの子は試合でやろうとしているプレーがハッキリしているように見受けられる。
昨日、今日と、綾高生のボールは１発打つと決して悪くはないと思うものの、１試合通して見ると他所と比べていまいち洗練されてないようで、粗が目立ってしまう。
対応力、予測力といったものを見に付ける為に普段の練習をよく集中して取り組んでいるだろうか。
相手をたじろがせるプレーを少なからず見せたのは紛れもなく事実。
ここまでレベルが上がってきているのだから強くなれる可能性はまだ結構あるはずだと思う。
