今更だし見てもいないけどデ杯の話。
ＣＥ席もＳＳ席も抽選全滅した上に京都行く事になったので見に行けなかったデ杯。
見たかったのは錦織を筆頭とした歴代最強の日本がフランスに真っ向から立ち向かう姿。
そんな希望は抽選段階で崩れエースも欠場してしまいましたが。
それでもフランス側はトップ２を外したとはいえガスケ、シモンら元トップ１０とダブルス１位２位のマウとエルベールの布陣で試合に臨んでくれました。
戦力層が厚すぎるというのもありますが、ワールドグループの１回戦で錦織を欠いた日本に対してもフランスのメンバーは豪華。
もし錦織が出ていたとしても勝つ事は難しい相手ではありますが、デ杯は錦織が出なければ話にならない大会。
今回フランスというテニス強国相手にエースを欠場させたのは、どうなんだろうなと思う反面、錦織は日本代表に対する思いが強いという話もよく聞きますし、今まで何度も出場してきてくれていました。
トップ選手にとってデ杯の欠場は仕方ない、そういう風潮もありますしあまり今回の欠場は仕方ないという声が多いみたいです。
しかし去年のオリンピックの時もそうですが、トップ選手の欠場というニュースが出る度に大会の格を、特にオリンピックになると他競技が本気で栄冠を目指す中、テニスという競技の格を落としているのではないか、なんて思ったりもします。
一般層がトッププロの欠場をどう受け止めるかは分かりませんが、国別対抗戦のデ杯も、スポーツの祭典のオリンピックも、テニスにとってはＡＴＰランキングに大きな影響を与えないから優先順位は低い。
野球で言うとＷＢＣもそうですが、やはりこうした立派な大会には一流の選手が出てきて他を引っ張らなければ、大会としての魅力が落ちるしファンもガッカリしてしまう。
現状、デ杯は錦織が出ても勝てる保障はありませんが、しかし出場しなければ日本がデ杯における栄冠を手に掴めるのはいつになるのか。
錦織以外にも日本史上屈指のテニス選手がいる今のチャンスを活かさない手は無いのでは？と、思ったのでした。
