今回の市民大会は海老名と綾瀬の両方に綾高生が出場しました。
現役とＯＢが揃って各地で暴れ回ってきた訳です。
まさかそんな日が来るとはね。
自分としては第二の故郷とも呼べる大好きな綾瀬の方にも出たいと前々から思っているものの、在学でも在勤でも在住でも無いので基本的には応援でしか綾瀬には行っていない。
最後に出たのは高３の時に弟と組んで初戦で負けたダブルスだったかな。全然活かせなかった。
しかし今時の綾高生はコートで随分と元気に動き回れるものだ。
同じ歳の時の自分は大会では常にガチガチだった記憶しかない。
海老名の方に出たチーム海老名の高校生はシングルスで前に出る動きが綺麗。
そんなプレー学校の練習でやってるのかな？
自分が持っていないノウハウを彼らは持っている。
春の時に引き続き綾高生が沢山試合に出るようになって、自分がこれまで戦った事のある相手と後輩の試合が多くなってきた。
長年だらだらと毎度の様に負け続けるだけのテニスをしてきたせいか、年２回だけの大会で３度も４度も戦った相手もいる。
大学生の頃は４年間７大会で3勝9敗、基本的に負けの記憶ばかり。
特に今回は自分が通算0勝3敗の相手と後輩が戦う事になったので、いつの日になるか分からないリベンジの日まで取っておいた0勝3敗の試合の時のメモを後輩に伝えた。
高校生の試合では見ないようなプレーをする相手に自分は本当に苦汁を飲まされ続けてきた。
まあ、そういうところが未だに改善できていないウィークポイントなのであるが、故に後輩達には特にその部分を気をつけてほしいというのが今回の試合の注目点。
何よりも相手はどんな状況でも諦めない、テニスへの情熱の塊。
本当、後輩は良い相手と当たったと思う。
日頃の練習量で言えば君達が圧倒的に優位のはずだけど、はたしてどちらの方がよりテニスを愛しているだろうか。
それが見えず自分でいっぱいいっぱいだったのが学生時代の自分。
ほんの少しだけ昔より勝てるようになって、こうしてコート外から苦戦した相手のテニスを見ていると、まあ自分がこの先歳を重ねても安心してテニスに熱中できるなぁと思う。
学生時代より練習量が圧倒的に減って脚も攣るようになった自分であるが残念なこと弱体化しているはずの今が全盛期と言わざるをえない。
故に脚はともかくとしてこの先テニスが衰えるという実感がまだ見えない。
が、現状こんなに勝ててない状態でこの先続けてどうするんだろうか、というのも思う。
市民大会で締めた9月のテニスの戦績は3勝8敗。
自分としての本番の市民大会を2勝6敗で迎えて気分は最悪。
予選のスコアは1-6 6-0。
初戦の相手の試合を丸々観察して全ゲームのサーブのコース、ラリーのパターンをしっかりテニスノートに記録して臨んで1-6。データテニスとは何なのか。
2勝6敗と同じような内容のテニス。
当たる前に飛ぶ？初球からダメ？な塩試合しか最近はできていない。
それでもなんやかんやで２位通過で本戦に上がった、悪天候様々やで。
9月のあまりもの打てなさでヘタれて本戦はハイブリッドからHDアスタポリ単張りに変更。
鎌トーで飛びが必要だと思ったからずっとハイブリッドにしていたのに、こんなんだからいつまで経ってもダメなのよ。
それでも試合に全くダメなイメージしかない状態で挑んで、確かに気落ちしたまま入ったけど、本戦初戦は自分の予想を大きく裏切って好調だった。
前日まで全く手応え無かったのに、土壇場でHDアスタポリに逃げたらテニスが思いのまま。
やはりアスタポリは神であられた。
これをスタンダードと呼ぶのは無理があるのではなかろうか。
後は、エスマッハのフレーム厚のパワーで体力の消耗を抑えられれば良いのだが。
で、思いもよらぬ好調の本戦初戦は2-8で2大会連続の差初戦敗退。
今年の海老名市は全部初戦負けねぇ。
何だろうね、調子は良かったはずだけど、それでも自分はこの程度って事か。
好調でこんな試合だと真面目に頑張ってるのが馬鹿らしくなるというか、もっと勝つにはこれより頑張ってクオリティ上げなきゃいけないが、そうするのはしんどいと感じた初戦敗退。
今まで戦ってきた相手はテニスへの熱意がある、勝利への強い気持ちがあるが、気付かぬ内に自分はそれを失っていたと言うのか。
プレーの質を上げなきゃ勝てない、というときに踏ん張れない、もういいかな、かったるいから勝たなくてもいいかなってなってしまうようだと、もう誓い内にごく自然とテニスを止めてしまうかもね。すまんな大先輩方、俺の方が先に引退するのかもな。
そして今回は久しぶりに弟が出場。
何なんだろあやつは、奇妙なスコアで平然と勝ち上がる。
今回もまた圧倒的な差をつけられてしまった。
最近全然出てなかったから気を抜いしまっていたか、毎度のように入賞する弟と万年初戦敗退の兄。
こんなに最悪な気分なのは久しぶり。
とんでもない恥を晒したがまあどうせいつもの事か。
一体何が違うと言うんだ、はい、小中高大と僕らは環境も立場も全く違うテニスをしていたね。
しかしこれではあまりにも良くない。
この気持ちをどう晴らしてやろうか。
